Day 4
Day 4 Morning Game Drive
Our day started again with a game drive at 6 AM. It was very cold and a bit misty. The camp provided heavy-duty ponchos that kept us warm and dry. They also had hot water bottles for us every morning.
Our main goal in the morning was to try to find the lion pride that lives in the conservancy. Lion prides are led by a dominant male or a coalition of two or three brother lions. The pride at Ol Pejeta is led by three male lions. Lions usually hunt at night or early/late in the day when it is cooler. Then they typically rest in the shade during the day.

Early morning wake-up call
Our day started with a 5:30 AM wake-up “call.” At dinner the previous evening, they asked if we wanted coffee, tea, or hot chocolate with our wake-up call. At 5:30 AM, a camp staff member came by each tent to make sure we were awake and deliver our hot beverages. The sun was still down at 5:30 AM and it was very cold. The conservancy is at 6,000 feet above sea level, near Mt. Kenya, the second tallest mountain in Africa after Mt. Kilimanjaro. It is located just south of the equator.

Flight 3: ADD to NBO
Shortly after we ended our Day 1 post, we left the lounge in ADD to board our flight to Nairobi. Our flight was delayed yet again. This time we sat on the airplane for over an hour before we finally left. Fortunately, the flight was only 2 hours.

Day 1: Travel
Chicago
We left last night from Chicago O’Hare to Brussels on our way to Nairobi. We are traveling with Peter’s parents and brother Greg’s family. Spirits were high as we waited in the airport lounge.
We got a little nervous as our flight was delayed multiple times and we had a relatively short layover scheduled in Brussels. When we left, we were still hopeful that we would make up some time so that we would be able to make our connection.
